Hi all, this is my first post on this site.I noticed right away in my new cooper s ,that when I let off on the accellerator, there is a very unnerving lag before the car/engine respond to the command to slow down. This is also very noticeable when shifting either up or down ,almost as if you have to wait for the revs to come down before you can let out the clutch.Doug mehr at turnermotorsport in Amesbury Ma. said it is due to the double size flywheel in this motor and that his firm is working on a light weight aluminum replacement.Cost TBD.Anyone had this experience,I can't say I read about anyone making this complaint.

Having had a Cooper for 6000 miles before I got the S there is a noticeable difference in deceleration in the two cars. Rather than it being a problem, I think it is just the considerable differences in compression ratios. Drive a Cooper and you'll see what I mean.

Haven't placed an order for the "S" yet (although I"m sure I will!) because of the precise "problem" you describe . That "lag" on deceleration is unnerving and I found it to exist whenever the cluth is used. I mentioned it to the dealer rep. and they had not heard a complaint or noticed the phenomenon themselves which makes one "ponder". It's there all right and it throws off your timing!!

I have a May '02 build MCS. It does exactly what you described. Messed with me during shifting until I got used to it.
Going in for an ECU upgrade on Tuesday. I'll post if there are any changes afterward. I have about a 25 mile drive home so I'll have plenty of time to pay attention.

Software fix due to dealers in September for this problem on S and Cooper. Dealer should have it now or first week October according to MINI USA. There are several posts on this from several months ago. Call dealer and set appt. if they have the fix. I am waiting to do the same thing. FYI

Software fix for this. Book appt. with dealer. Check to see they have it.

Does anyone know if this is a software problem? I see that several people have posted that a software fix is on the way. I also say someone mention away to correct this is via lighter flywheel. I am experiencing the same issue.
