I brought mine into the dealer to have a few things fixed and mentioned the AC noise, but they said they couldnt replicate it, so nothing was fixed. Waste of time.

Is there any way to buy this weight thats added on to the ac lines that stops the humming noise. I want to avoid the dealer visit if possible.

My 2011 MCS may have this issue

I've had my 2011 MCS for about a month (and 1700 miles) and I just started getting noise this weekend. I looked at the A/C line and it does not have the weight on it. My MINI was built in 11/10 so I don't know if the bulletin will apply.
I am not sure if my issue is the same as the rest because it doesn't just do it when the A/C is first started but whenever the A/C is on. Like when I got off the expressway on my way home tonight the noise was still there, about 40 minutes after starting the car. If I'm going fast enough or revving the engine high enough I can't hear it, but when I can it is the same noise that everyone else seems to have.
I am debating on taking it in now or just waiting until my first maintenance visit. Especially since the A/C seems to be working so well.

Yes, this is the exact same problem. MAKE them fix it! And make sure they fix it right: They fixed mine but it started happening again after about a month and I'm going in to get it re-done.

The bulletin should apply to your car since your AC was clearly sloppily put together without the weight (not surprising since it's MINI, but they should definitely fix it!).

Does this noise have any eventual effect on the ability of the AC to keep the car cool?

My 2010 was built around 10/09, and have started experiencing what I assume is this same issue. When turning the A/C on, it starts humming with what seems like a high-pitched fan. Not just the compressor being on, but additional noise. Is this a correct description of the symptoms run into? (The TSB is too vague for sound description)

It also seems like the engine makes a different noise when revving past 3000 rpm's as well. Although I've experienced that in all cars, so I can assume the engine noise is acceptable for having the extra strain.

Had my 15,000 mile service at Mini of Concord yesterday & they fixed me right up. No argument - the tech knew exactly what was going on & it's as quite as can be now. I had this thread ready to go just in case for backup though...

I would print out the pages showing the part numbers & take it in to them. I believe they are posted earlier in the thread, but I'll find my invoice & repost the parts they used on my clubbie.

Thank you.

The first time I went there, I just told them (2 months ago), they said, no it didn't exist, though service advisor heard the noise.

I took it in again last week (printed page from here), they said "sorry we can't locate that bulletin."

WTF!!

Appreciate you posting/scanning your info-so I can take that in.

yeah, my dealer kinda messed me up too back in June. The mechanic took a drive with me before I dropped it off and he heard it. Then when I came to pick it up a few days later, they said they were unable to replicate the sound. I didn't have time to waste, so I left it.

From my Mini Concord invoice:
Customer reports there is a loud whining noise coming from the dash area when using the A/C and the vehicle is moving. Client noted there are online reports of this that include insulating a line in the dash for vibration - check & advise

CAUSE: 6499000 Installed VIBRATION DAMPNER 614WWM
1 64-50-9-231-714 Vibration absorber: 64999952
2 07-12-9-903-806 ISA SCREW: 071000

15085 Checked vehicle and found that at times you hear excessive compression noise. Checked bulletins & found vehicle to apply to SIM 64 01 10. Per service bulletin installed A/C suction line vibration dampener. Rechecked & found normal operation & no abnormal noises

Hope this helps! E

Well took my 2011 in and they ended up replacing the compressor. Well guess what, same noise just as loud.

They even said they knew about the TSB for the weight/dampener...

The whole visit to the dealer was a complete waste. Window still squeals when rolling it up, the clutch pedal still creaks and the AC still makes noise. Really not happy.

I recently went in for my 15K service and mentioned the AC growling noise I hear sometimes especially when hot outside (90deg +).
The SA wanted me to show him and of course it was not making the noise at the time I took it in (8:00am). He said the fix is only done under certain conditions.
I left the car for the day so they could try it when it got hotter out. They did add the dampener but did not say if they replicated the noise.

Noise when turning A/C on

After I heard the sound given in the U Tube of an earlier thead it confirmed that I had this same problem. I told my dealer that I wanted the damping weight added to my A/C inlet line and stated the service bullen M64 01 10 that covered it. The dealer added the damper weight and the A/C noise is completely gone. There was no charge or hassle. The dealer had no trouble finding the bulletin and apparently had the parts in stock. My MINI was built in October, 2010 the last date covered by this bulletin.

2011 MC, PW/B, ScanGauge, A/C Vibration damper, 9,500 trouble free miles.

+1 on successful fix. Put my 2010 MCS at the dealer, described the symptoms, got it back with the weight installed.

Noise is gone. Great fix.

Listened to the audio in the video. It is just the AC compressor. I am new to the mini and did the do it yourself AC recharge. Before that my AC was working (barely). Now that I have the right amount in I can hear the compressor more. I have worked on refgeration plants before and have heard that noise before. Most probable cause is that the refigerant pressure needs to be tweeked to the compressors optimal psi. Here pretty soon I am going to take in and have a total flush and charge on my AC system. Sometimes the old refigerant gets all sludgy and all from the oils in the system.

I can tell you without a shadow of doubt that the 2011 does it exactly as my 2010 did.

If I were you, be persistent and ask them to bring in the MINI service rep.

Just because the TSB says your production date is NOT affected, doesn't mean it's not doing it. It is NOT normal, that is why there is a TSB issued for it.

Could you please post pictures again? Mty dealer needs input on how to install. The link is not working I guess its been long time since you posted it. Thank you so much

I'd like to see a picture of where this weight is fitted to the AC pipework, I have the noise described and thought it was a out of balance fan motor, pretty sure my local dealer will have no clue about this service bulletin, so any extra info before I go in would be gratefully received.
