HPFP again! replaced twice in 10 months

Guys,

My Mini R56 2007 was back to BMW service center after 5 days on replacing the cylinder head cover. They had identified it is the HPFP after 2 days of diagnostic.

When i ask what would be the root cause on the failure of the HPFP on such a new car, they blame on the "Cheap" gas again (WTF, I changed on using the premium fuel since then for 10 months). Then, I let the service man know the HPFP is being replaced last year in July with less than 10,000km on it. He was surprised and willing to help me on getting this service covered by the warranty due to goodwill etc....

I would say I'm lucky without being charged while this service would cause more than US$3,000 including the labor and parts.

I really enjoy on driving the R56 on the power and handling. But this car is really not for users who need a reliable day to day use car. I think I will say good bye to her right after the service. Sigh..

Just a quick google search on HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) problems shows BMW has been having "HPFP problems" in many of their cars since at least 2008. It's more like a supplier part failure due to bad manufacturing or design not due to "cheap gas".

I know. But the thing is, BMW cars will have extended 10 years warranty on the HPFP while Mini don't.

Looks like we are not alone while the Peugeot 207GTI which sharing the same engine design also having the same problem with around the same mileage on the HPFP replacement.

That is nuts... i guess you just have to hope for a good one...im up to a good 39K miles now (*knock on wood*)...

the cheap gas thing is a bunch of bull too. Im sure im running discount crap through mine non-stop, though it is 93. Im sure Kroger just buys whoever is selling cheapest...
