Power Steering lines replacement

Reposting in a more appropriate section....

Wisemen, The cooper S is leaking power steering fluid from one of the hoses (not sure if feed or return line). My original plan was to get a comparable hose from the local auto parts store, but this evening I was shopping on the FastMini.net site, and saw that they sell these hoses for $54 a pop! Is there something special about the hose that I am missing?

Thanks in advance!

High pressure, with rubber and hard line integrated to contour fit the tight confines under the pump=pricey!

I'm guessing they quoted you the low PSI side is $54.00. The high PSI will run in excess of $200.00. I know from experience.

If you make the repair yourself, make sure the metal tubing isn't rubbing against the PS pump bracket. My dealer installed my first high pressure line for about $400.00. 19 months later they replaced the second one free of charge because the tube was touching the bracket and it rubbed a hole in the tube.

A leak in the high PSI side can cause the oil to spray on the exhaust system or engine causing wisps of smoke to come up through the hood, like your car is on fire....and it could be. Leaks in the low PSI side will drip and leak down and coat the underside of the car.

Good luck.....Caution>>>>>> "only" use the recommended power steering fluid from MINI or a MINI parts depot. Regular auto parts stores will try to sell a standard power steering fluid>>>>>,don't ruin your system with theses fluids, they can harm your pump seals.
