New to me 2005 MCS major problems
Just heard back from the dealer who was reveiwing the car for the first time and I am devastated.
Auxilary fan failure - $633.59
Control Arm Bushing failure (will not pass state inspection) - $649.40
Are these things that I can have fixed for less. Please someone help me get my heart out of my chest.

Both of these things are within the scope of the DIYer. The main question is do you have a good set of tools and a place to do the work?
The fan assembly sells for around $300 and can be done in an afternoon.
The control arm bushings with the brackets pre-fitted go for around $60 each (should really be replaced in pairs).

Wow, your state actually inspects suspension bushings?
I just had the LCAs replaced (under warranty) at $950 at 34k. $649 sounds like a price for one side. Both should be done together as they affect handling/steering.
Search the forum for threads for alternatives on how to repair/replace the fan assembly.

We carry and sell all the MINI OEM parts, just don't have them all on the website cause there is so many.
And since your in NC, your always welcome to come down to Atl for service.

I have found 8 Mini independent shops in North Carolina that may help you if you so decide not to DIY. Also here is a list of aftermarket parts and DIY sources that may also save you money. Good luck.

Thanks BuzzSaw. Doesn't look like any of those guys are in Charlotte, good info though.
OrangeCrush who is in Charlotte may have a nice solution for me. Its another instance of NAM guys helping each other out. Special thanks to him.
Thanks to all of those who posted. As i have read more it seems like the resistor on the radiator fan unit is the weak link and the bushings are normal to wear at almost 90k. Hopefully I can get this fixed soon.
