Strange Headlight Issue

BOTH low beams have seemingly gone out on my 06 Cooper at the same time. Both high beams work however, as do all the other lights. What are the odds both bulbs blew at the same time? Could it be a fuse? (I've checked what appears to be headlight-related fuses, and they seem fine... I hate to get in there and remove the bulbs if they are still good, because it looks difficult. Any ideas on what might be the problem before I pull out the bulbs?

Odds are not good.

Maybe there is a relay which has failed. Do you have a 12V tester ? Check the pwr at the bulb sockets.

Do you have Xenons or regular Halogen capsules? The easiest way to tell, Do you have Headlight Washers? Yes=Xenon HIDs, No=Halogens.

If you have Xenons your Ballast may have gone, Since they are both bulbs are went at once.

Note: Remember to wear gloves when handling Halogen bulbs. (The oil from your hands can cause the capsule to shatter if you don't)

odd but possible

if you have standard halogen lights the high and low beam use the same H7 bulb so an easy check would be to simply swap the bulbs on one side.

they really are not hard to get to, altho working overyour head IS a bit awkward. Once you get the connector off the bulbs simply snap into a spring holder. I usually pry one of the tabs away gently with a small screw driver.

if still at a loss, a good autopart store will help you swap a bulb....
