Service engine Light

I had a complete new Exhaust System installed on our 2003 R50 Mini. The next day when i started it the Service Engine Light was on & stayed on. Not sure if it is related to the installation or some other issue. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Often disconnection of things during maintenance will cause faults that go away on their own. If you had other things done it may be just one of those things. If not, you need someone to read the code and help guide you to the issue.

Like an earlier poster, my first reaction would be either the O2 sensor hasn't been properly re-installed or it is faulty. I assume you had a replacement MINI exhaust, but if it was aftermarket then that could be the problem if the 02 sensor isn't reading properly.

A Cent-Tec code reader is only about $100 at Harbor Freight or similar store. Well worth it. It's likely an exhaust leak, faulty O2, or something coincidental. Did you do it yourself? If so, did you handle the sensor safely? One little drop, ding, "oops"and the sensor is toast.

The Exhaust System was an OEM that i had installed. The code reader showed the rear sensor was faulty. They tried to reset but it would not take. So ended up having a New one installed. Very expensive piece. $275 installed. Yikes!!
