Clicking noise when turning

Hey guys,

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So when I turn my steering wheel (2003 MC, 90K) all the way to the left, or right, when I apply the accelerator there is a clicking noise coming from the front axle.

Now a mechanic that I am familiar with said I needed to replace both the left and right front axle.

Does this sound right? My only concern is that I only hear the noise when I apply the accelerator.

Any ideas on whether my mechanic is right?

There are many threads on this clicking noise. I had the same experience and had my axles replaced. No more clicking.

seems like CV joints are gone, check to see if your CV joint boots are torn or loose, might be a clue.

Clicking happens when the bearings in the CV joints are waisted and dry, usually happens when the boots are torn or have come loose.

With the proper tools, its an easy replace.

Good luck

+1 on CV joints. I replaced the axles in my old '02 MCS in October '09. It's better to buy them complete then to rebuild the joints themselves. See if you have a buddy mechanic that can get them at his price. I did that and paid $350 for both at Pep Boys.

Anyone know if it is possible to just re-lube the CV joints and replace the boots?

The CV joints usually come well lubed, and the boot keeps that lube in place. Once you begin to hear the clicking sound, it's time to replace them.
