We are needing to replace the starter in our 2004 R53 Mini, but we are not really sure how to get to it to get it off to replace it....

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks

If the Bentley manual is correct...

-disconnect battery.
-working between engine and engine compartment rear bulkhead, remove exhaust manifold heat shield mounting bolts and lift out heat shield.
-remove exhaust manifold.
-remove starter motor heat shield.
-disconnect wires to starter.
-remove starter mounting bolts and lift out starter.
-installation is reverse of removal.

torques:
-exhaust manifold heat shield to cylinder head - 10 ftlb
-exhaust manifold to cylinder head - 18 ftlb
-starter head shield to engine block - 7 ftlb
-starter to transmission - 63 ftlb
-terminal 30 to starter - 10 ftlb
-terminal 50 to starter - 6 ftlb

If you need a cheap starter we have a couple used ones from some MINI's we are parting out. Be careful with used starters they are different from car to car mainly with different transmissions.
