Removing the Starter in a 2004 Mini

If the Bentley manual is correct...
-disconnect battery.
-working between engine and engine compartment rear bulkhead, remove exhaust manifold heat shield mounting bolts and lift out heat shield.
-remove exhaust manifold.
-remove starter motor heat shield.
-disconnect wires to starter.
-remove starter mounting bolts and lift out starter.
-installation is reverse of removal.
torques:
-exhaust manifold heat shield to cylinder head - 10 ftlb
-exhaust manifold to cylinder head - 18 ftlb
-starter head shield to engine block - 7 ftlb
-starter to transmission - 63 ftlb
-terminal 30 to starter - 10 ftlb
-terminal 50 to starter - 6 ftlb

If you need a cheap starter we have a couple used ones from some MINI's we are parting out. Be careful with used starters they are different from car to car mainly with different transmissions.
