Several vendors, like WayMotorWorks keep A rebuilt SC in stock, and have relationships with folks that know the mini's unique SC (some places do not rebuild the water pump pto correctly, or they just glue in seals, rather than replacing them ).
If you choose to send your SC off for rebuilding, it can take a few days minimum, to several weeks depending on the work that needs to be done, so unless you don't need to drive your mini, most folks do an exchange. Be very careful, one e-bay seller sells very cheap rebuilds, that may or may not last (feeling lucky?) with a good warrenty and glued in seals. A few folks have had good luck, but a few shops that installs them have had several failures, and considering the amount of work to remove and replace a SC, I would reccomend that you pay a bit more and do it once!!
You can sometimes find low mile used SC on e-bay, that may be good to install outright, or may be useable as a core to have rebuilt.
Many different options, just depends on you timeframe, $$, and risk tolerance level.

I recently had mine rebuilt. Call Dustin from autoxcooper.com, great service, better then a new OEM from dealer (and much cheaper).
