Drivers side door handle cover.

Not sure if the cover came unglued (its been up in the high 90's in NC) or someone tore it off but my chrome drivers side door handle cover has gone AWOL.

Can I buy this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mini-...Q5fAccessories

It says it attaches via 3m tape but if the original handle cover is missing can it work? Can it still be stuck to the black plastic workings of the remaining part of the handle?

How many miles on your car. If less than warranty end then have the dealer replace it. Just tel them if fell off while you were on the highway. It is not really a lie as you are not sure if that is what happened or not.

I located a set (stock#DH68505B) online and ordered them for $35 hope they fit OK.

Thanks for the reply

That e-bay part in your link doesn't really look like a MINI Cooper handle. If it doesn't fit, you should be able to order an OEM replacement from PelicanParts.com or similar for around $50. DIY installation is about 2hr per door.

just so you know there have been 3 different versions of door handles. one version on the R50/53 and there are 2 distinct versions for the R56. The newer handles have the "nipples" closer to the middle and the older handles have the "nipple" closer to the edge. You can not tell the difference until the chrome part of the handle is taken off of the mechanical side so I would be careful if you think you can just buy a whole new assembly and "stick" on the chrome part.

Most likely the entire handle needs to be swapped which is a complete hassle. I've watched Lyle do it a few times and a technician at the dealership do it too. Each has chosen a different method to replace.
