AC Coolant Volumne for R53?
Hi All,
Anyone know the coolant volume for an R53?
I had my AC recharged over the weekend and it didn't really make the AC any colder. The tech put in 0.88 pounds, but he didn't seem too sure that it was the correct amount (he had to read the instructions on how to recharge it).
Anyway, I'd like to find out if that's the correct amount before I go searching for some other cause.
Thanks!

Haynes has the answer again!
I don't know much about a/c but seems to me that
1. I've never had gas shot in without a very good leak check being done first. If he shot in that much your system was dry?
and
2. Most a/c diagnostics seems to involve checking the "before and after" pressures to determine if the compressor is working up to spec.
ANY decent a/c place should be doing this IMO ... nothing special about a MINI in that regard....

1. They sucked it all out first, so it was a complete refill. They didn't check for leaks (unless their machine does it based on pressure), but it was still not blowing cold right off the bat, so even if there is a leak I can't see that it would have affected it so quick (correct me if I'm wrong on this!).
2. The guy didn't really have a clue (and neither did I really). It was done with a machine that he had to read the manual to figure out how to use, so it may or may not have checked the pressure (even if it did neither of us would have known what it meant!)
I may take it back when someone more knowledgeable is there...he said that they do it again for free if it didn't work. If that doesn't help, then it's off to find a better shop.

I'd be looking for a different shop
today releasing ref' into the air is considered a BAD thing and to evacuate a system requires a special machine. Sounds like they have this. Use of this machine requires a certified operator . . .
IME NO reputable place will refill a system without a good leak check and that too requires special equipment and if that check is unsuccessful the system is typically filled with gas that also contains dye which helps identify a previously missed leak.
TILT ... my b.s. meter is peaking here and I think you got ripped off by a poor shop allowing an untrained operator to play around with your a/c
My bad suspicion is your compressor has pooped and that's a $$ replacement. Sad to say a 5 year failure is not what I would call unusual. I've had 'em last 12 years (yes I owned a car that long) and crap out at 6 months.
