Squeaky header driving me nuts!

After several counseling sessions and dusty backsides, I've finally concluded that the incessant squeak in my '03r50 is coming from my header (more specifically the "flexible" portion immediately before the cat. It squeaks at idle, on bumps, or even with the engine off and gentle nudgings on the motor.
Anyone else ever had this happen? Is the solution an aftermarket header? Does one really need a catalytic converter and flexible section?
Advice, please.

You do need the flex section

as the engine moves and the exhaust system doesn't. I'm a fan of cats on street cars so I'd say yes to your question about the cat. Anyway, the mesh covers a bellows. I've never heard of a squeek like you are describing before. I'm guessing that you're just lucky!

Anyway, you could try banging on it to see if that changes the stuff enough to make the squeek go away.

Other than that, I'm stumped!

Matt
