Drivers side rear brake pads rattling/clanking noise
I have an 02 MC with Hawk HP Plus brake pads on stock rotors. They will often rattle/clank at speeds up to about 40 mph and the sound goes away when the brakes are applied. Warped rotors??? Do I need to replace the pads?? The brakes are working fine, but the noise is quite annoying.

I have the same exact issue. Mine is more like a clicking noise but stops when I hit the brakes. What I realized was that when I removed the wheel the brake pads are a little loose on the carrier. So I tried reappling brake disc quiet and it went away for 2 days. Then the noise came back. If you noticed there is a gap between the pads and carrier. I would suggest some type of shim and fill that gap between the carrier and the brake pad ears. Hope this helps.

on an 02 the inner rear pad should be held onto the piston with a spring clip; there's a groove around the piston lip
sometimes this doesn't get clipped on right and they can move around.
This is the back of a rear, inside GEN1 (I've used a few different brands over the years but all had similar setup)
