On dash...What is this? Pic

Hey Everyone,

I have narrowed my rattling down to this area.

It looks like the security light or something. Do I have to leave this here or can I put my iPod mount here and remove the light?

My Wifey thinks it is a sensor for Automatic A/C. I don't think we have automatic A/C. How do I find out if we have it or not?

I believe that she is correct, if your car has climate control ( digital numbers for inside temp setting). I have the same thing on my 04mcs with climate control.

+1

If you squish a piece of low density foam between the windshield and the dash...I bet the rattle goes away!! Most folks say the stuff sold by the window AC install stuff if fine!!

Thanks so much for the help. We will definitely put some foam in there. I had already suggested that if we couldn't remove it.

i'm pretty sure that is the rain sensor for your automatic windshield wipers, not actually a light.. I'd look into it a little more before removing it if it were me.

Nope, that's definitely for the auto A/C. The rain sensor is mounted directly to the windshield, up behind the rearview mirror, a black box about 3" square.

ha yeah just kidding, I just talked to one of the other guys at work about it and he said the rain sensor is higher up. sorry about that. He did suggest that it might actually be a bulb for an alarm if you had one.. how does it work for the auto a/c though?

I used to have a rattle in the same exact area, I thought that it was from the little round plug that was in the same location (I didn't have auto A/C) but it turns out it was the back of the dash where there is a gap between it and the windshield. Like somebody else mentioned, if you purchase some 1"x1" foam stipping that is used for HVAC installations that can be found at Home Depot or Lowes.

It senses the amount of light shining inside the car to vary the A/C fan output. Sun = increased fan speed vs. shade = reduced fan speed
