Xenon Fail

My Front Passerger side Xenon went out. I just pulled it out and found that the bulb casing had melted.

Question, can I still use the connector or do I need to replace the whole thing?

I had this happen to a brand new pre-face lift assembly. Smoked the inside of the headlight lens too So replacing the socket was moot.

My second concern was "why" did it happen in the first place ? I did a full scan of the internet. Power surge ? Bad ballast or igniter ? I felt in the end it had something to do with a ballast and irregular current flow/spike.

So splicing in another socket while inexpensive, may not be the solution. Is the inside of the headlight lens all fogged up with smoke. Check it against the other side for clarity.
