Must Read About time Power steering pump failure !!!

This has been a problem that MINI has known about for years. I've got a 2003 that the PS goes out intermitently on. I was under the impression that the newer MINI's don't have this issue, but I haven't really researched them. It would be good if MINI USA came through on this. I assumed that after 7 years I was on my own, even though my MINI is a garage queen with 55K on it.

I also have a 04 with possible power steering pump problems. I called Mini USA to talk with someone about it, they took my vin number and came back and said that it was within the covered vin's and to take it to the dealer where they'd adjust the DME. I asked him what that would do for the pump and he was clueless about how it all was going to work. Monday it goes to the dealer.

Sorry to hear that. If I recall correctly, I think a few others have had this same problem with the rebuilt unit. Bummer

They were closed today, will call maniana. Most all the replacment pumps are rebuilds. Even the new ones as we all know will fail. But 8 hours and the same problem before the rebuild that's weird........

Did MINI offer to cover your ps pump?

No they blew me off. All I can do now is send the pump back to BBA and they will take it apart and rebuild it again for free. Problem is your without a car for a week.

I was thinking of sending my pump away to BBA for reconditioning, but am wondering now if this is the way to go

Got an early 04 JCW, started having the psp go out when car got hot, only to have it work fine as soon as it cooled down, it wasnt really making any noise though. Anyway had it replaced about 2 weeks ago and now i am seeing this possible recall stuff. I hope I can recover my money if it goes thru.

So far so good in since Friday and it does have a lifetime warranty. The first one was a fluke I guess, but the second one seems spot on ! If you deal with BBA talk to Wendy she pulled a solid and got one out to me without having to send the first one back. . We all must file a complaint this will happen to you it's just a matter of time and sometimes more than once.

I would suspect that there's a grounding problem somewhere, a nicked wire or loose wire along the pathway of the pump's system.
The mechanic(s) may have accidently done so or the car itself was causing the possible rub or short (thru vibrations, normal driving).
Check the fuse box, look for corrosion, maybe even if you don't see it, clean it out anyways with good electric automotive stuff. Check to see if by remote chance, somehow the wrong AMP fuse was put in.
