Fuel issues

Very odd...nothings changed mod wise in roughly 1200mi but recently my mileage has dropped dramatically.

I went from a 23mpg avg/tank to 19 (real calculations not scan gauge stuff...23mpg avg based on 8tanks of gas). Scangauge shows a drop from 54 to 29 (50mph 6th gear cruise control same road) real time mpg and from 32 to 21 avg (same route same habits all that jazz). It's my to and from work routine so Its pretty consistent in route, speeds, habits ect

Today it got worse. I'm at a 1/2 tank and the only thing that's changed is the weather (10deg). Scangauge reports 14mpg avg over my route and my 50/6/cc test was 16

I've checked tire pressures all that jazz. It really confuses me because performance hasn't been effected. It starts right up and runs strong. I have noticed on occasion it idles rough but nothing consistent.

Thoughts comments ect? It's semi-heavily mod'd so I don't expect aceptional mpg but seeing it drop like this concerns me. I'm leaning tword fuel filter possibly pump (102k) but I'd think it'd fall on it's face up top. When Jan tuned it over 1200mi ago it ran lean on the dyno and he mentioned pump/filter.

I saw one of gray-raven's posts talkin bout winter gas and I was like WTF is that

Our winter generally consists of 3 days of sub 50* weather and about 3mo of people walkin around in parkas when is 75 out

I had a friend scan it (BMW tool not scangauge to avoid confusion) and among some unrelated airbag garbage there was a CAN bus error at 66k. I didn't own it till 96k and I have no idea what that means but he mentioned that it couldn't clear itself. He also said something about my rear o2 sensor needing to be turned off because I'm catless. Being from the land of k-jet and 80s gray market cars I have no idea WTF that means either

My 04 MCS is getting pretty bad MPG...roughly 19. I have 92K miles. No performance issues other than the occasional idle issue. I' certain we both need to replace the fuel filter AND O2 sensor. You wanna spend the money first and tell me how it works? hahaha

Well I've got the fuel filter already so it's going in...just a matter of "was that the problem or am I just ****"

Are there crossover parts? Can I pull injectors and an o2 sensor from a ford for example? I know on my old e30 I stole my buddies lighting **** to test and everything worked fine. Is there a wideband I can throw in there?

I'll search for PNs shortly but I think o2 makes sense so I'll probably pick a couple up and do em

O2 sensors covered 10 years or 100K on 2004-2006 MINIs per MINI USA due to faults with them. May or may not set codes as failing.

Why purchase them when they are covered??????

By your statement they arent covered for me...'02 and 102k. I'm not worried about spending the money I'm worried about chasing this problem.

I'm gettin a code for the rear one (00420 iirc) but I'm catless so that's "normal" and its had the code since before I bought it.

I'm trying to get all the little **** on the mini fixed/replaced/worked out whatever so it can be a bullet-proof "DD" for a few months while I work on my merc. I'm replacing the motor and painting the engine bay/replacing a bunch of little **** I can only do with the motor out so I can't afford to have the mini break while my 2nd car is down

Buellar...Buellar....

Anyone confirm or deny o2 sensor involvement or am I gonna have to chase this issue for a couple weekends and "forget" to help my community and post my findings?

No no findings...but I'll kick ya in the ***** for being a douche. Just because people don't post up write away doesn't mean they have forgotten...we do have lives outside of our MINI.

Thanks for the question though....come again!

Come on down

Sorry I figured it was a stupid question and people would know it off hand. I'll refrain from asking semi-technical questions since they seem to confuse you

Nice to see someone round this forum has a pair though

I think it is the same as the S...it is in the fuel tank, under the rear seat with the fuel pump.
Check real-oem or penske parts for diagrams/schematics to be sure!!
