Module gone bad?

Car's in for service, recommended replacing the Computer module.

the car has had some funny things happen to it since my 2 year old was banging the headlight switch really hard up and down: things like lights come on after I shut down the car. dashboard high beams light is on, which prevents foglights from working.
really, that's about the worst and least explainable thing. sometimes, the auto window open and close thing doesn't work perfectly, saw a taillight off one day, then back again the next. I had thought it was just a broken headlight stalk. I trust the mini service dealer, but shelling out close to $800 to replace the module sounds too harsh.
any other suggestions for cause of the headlights to stay on, high beams on, with no low beam setting.
if it were the module, could I do it myself for lot cheaper?

I had my module replace around 65k. My dashboard lights wouldn't turn on. If we are talking about the same module, then I don't think you can install it yourself. It needs to be programmed into your car or something, at least thats what the mini dealer said/did.

Used one!

I found a used one from a junked Mini on ebay. He sold it to me for $100, took it to the dealer to have it programmed ($75). Try and and find it online, if you buy it new from a 3rd party they can cost up to $600!
