2011 MCS forgets setting after sitting...

I was out of town for about 10 days and had my 2011 MCS sitting in the garage all locked up while I was away. I get back into town this week, hop in, start it up and proceed down the road...

I switch from FM radio, to Sirius stations and all of the pre-set stations I had programmed were gone... Then I go to change lanes and the "3 blink" blinker setting was gone... Then I go to get out of the car and the safety door lock setting had been erased too.

So, given that the car started right up after sitting for 10 days, it doesn't appear that the car lost power. Also, the car was not driven while I was away. Any idea on why my settings were forgotten by the car???

Now to the owners manual to figure out how to reset everything back again.

Thanks ahead of time for any responses... tvanhouten

Did you use the same key fob? I don't know about the sat radio settings but I know a lot of the other settings are stored with the key fob, and if you don't set them both the same, your settings will change depending on which fob you use to unlock/start the car.

Just a thought.

All that stuff is stored in the key, if you used your other key, instead of the one that was in your car when you programed your preferences, you would just have the factory default settings.

Ah... I think you have hit the nail on the head!

When I left out of town, I put the key fob in my fire safe along with the other one. Although I was sure that I picked up the correct fob, Im sure that I picked up the spare/second fob instead (thus the different car settings).

Excuse my error and ingnorance and thank you for the response.

First thing after work today, I will try the other fob.

If your settings are gone and your clock reads the incorrect time after the car has been sitting for a long time, or if you dont drive it that much, then you might invest in a trickle charger. Bmw products have so much electrical drain that I have been told it takes about 30 miles of driving on a daily basis to keep the car fully charged. A trickle charger placed on the car every week or two really helps keep the battery in top shape too.
