New to the site, could use some help.

Hi everyone, Minerva here.
Actually Minerva is what I call my 2003, Silk Green Mini Cooper, now I guess it is my "handle" too. I am a retired ( fill the tank once a month whether it needs it or not ) female who dearly loves her Mini.
My current problem is the door lock on the driver's side, it no longer operates with the switch on the dash or the buttom on the key, ( everything else still works ) so when I park I lock the old fashioned way with the key. When I am driving it stays unlocked.
The dealer says I need a new door actuator but from what I've seen on the net it may be a simple case of reataching the actuator that is there now. I thought someone else might have had this problem and could make me look less ignorant when I go to get it fixed.
Thanks for being there, Minerva

Welcome, Minerva!
Here is a thread on the door lock issues (and fixes.)
Depending where you live, there may be an independent shop that can do the job for far less than the dealer.

I have no experience with this problem but if the actuator is working but disconnected I would think that you wold hear a click when you hit the switch or fob. If it is totally silent I'd expect a bad actuator or wiring. Good luck!

Thanks everyone, for your prompt reply.
I have an appointment tomorrow with a Mini mechanic, recommended by MoM, Minis of Miami Club (joined a year ago). Minerva needs brakes too and he will treat me better and fairer than the dealer I am sure! Thanks again. I would still like to visit here though, I'll see about a photo.
