Does anyone know what exactly the on board diagnostics tests when checking the airbag system? Also does anyone know what the 10/year check replacement entails that supposedly you need to do at the dealers?

I am planing on replacing my 2002 S 2 spoke with a 3 spoke wheel and a newer 06 airbag. Other than the obvious it was deployed and stuffed and glued back together, anything else to check?

I was just wondering if the system is able to tell if it actually has been deployed. In the past I have replaced airbags on old old cars (Had a few mid 80s Porsche 944 type cars, but at that point I was younger (i.e. more reckless) and the cars had 15 year old plus airbags, so wasn't counting on them to work anyways.)

 

After reading this, and since I always wear my seatbelt, guess I am not too concerned.
