small oil leak after oil change?

I dunno what's up.

'05 Cooper S. I change the oil yesterday, and now, after sitting, it seems that about a teaspoon of oil will be under teh oilpan. I can't tell where it's coming from. there doesn't seem to be any oil by the drainpan or the oil filter.

The oil looks absolutely clear, though, which is puzzling, because I am pretty sure I didn't spill any...

You sure it's not coming from your drain plug? Might want to wipe everything dry and check it out a few hours after to see where it's really coming from.

Also, might want to make sure you're not mistaking it for coolant. It's clear and almost has an oily feel to it. I thought mine was oil but turned out to be the thermostat.

I'll wipe the drainplug and re-tighten it. I also just realised I probably overfilled the oil by about half a quart, too. Dummy me.

I suggest getting rid of the excess oil instead of letting it burn. If you have a topside oil extractor or know someone with one, that will do the trick. Otherwise drain the oil and if you can't afford to pour new oil, then make sure you drain cleanly.

REally, for half a quart? I don't see any bubbles on the dipstick after running it. I know certain folks recommend an extra quart for performance driving, but I dunno about these cars

You might be okay with half a quart but I always prefer to be within spec to be on the safe side. Overfilled oil can lead to carbon build up or faster degradation of your catalytic converter.
