French Facebook Group: "Prince" (R56) Engine Petition
Hi,
Not sure if I found out about this link here but there is a Facebook Group (mostly French - some English) putting together a petition to Peugot and BMW to do something about the "Prince" (R56 or "S") engine related problems - basically asking them BMW/MINI/Peugot to pay for any needed repairs related to the "faulty" design aspects of the engine (vacuum pump failure, timing belt and tensioner, cold start problems).
Here is the link to the Facebook Group
And here is a list of the cars (mostly European turbos) with the engine:
LES MODÈLES POSSÉDANT CE TYPE DE MOTORISATION:
C4 berline & coupé --> 150 ch THP (Citroën)
207 berline et CC -->150ch THP (Peugeot)
207 RC --> 175ch THP (Peugeot)
308 berline et CC --> 140 ch THP, 150ch THP et 175 ch THP (Peugeot)
308 GTi --> 200 ch THP (Peugeot)
RCZ --> 156 ch THP et 200 ch THP (Peugeot)
3008 --> 150 ch THP (Peugeot)
DS3 --> 155 ch THP (Citroën DS)
DS3 Racing --> 202ch THP (Citroën DS)
508 --> 200 ch THP (Peugeot)
5008 --> 156 ch THP (Peugeot)
Nouvelle C4 --> 155 ch THP(Citroën)
DS4 --> 155ch et 202 ch THP (Citroën DS)
Mini Cooper S et Cabriolet--> 175 ch THP (BMW)
Mini JWC --> 211 ch THP (BMW)
Mini Countryman S --> 184 ch THP (BMW)
As an aside, I am currently (with 49K) trying to decide to go with an extended warranty (AAA or MINI) or sell my 2007 "S" - maybe buy a 2011 Base Countryman or a 2004 Ford Focus SVT ($5K).
I took my car to an independent BMW mechanic last week and sure enough - there is an oil leak (I have the vacuum pump failure and engine rebuild at 33K a year ago) - so it is at the dealer getting fixed (they had to drop the transmission to investigate the leak) and I have a 2011 Clubman Base loaner (nice but slow.

File complaint with Mini USA for multiple engine problems and keep calling them, run the oil consumption test with the dealer, my car was using 1qrt. of oil/1k. miles(I am assuming you still have warranty) and have the dealer sent all repair records to Mini USA. That is what I did and Mini finally purchased my car back. I was so happy that I got rid of that lemon. No more Minis for me.
