Lots of rattles

so i cant be the only Cooper owner with rattles galore. One from the top of the dashboard and many others from all over the place. Plus, I hate the sound the doors make when you close them, not a nice solid thump. anyways, back to the rattles. just wondering what 'fixes' people have done based on where the rattle was.

For me, tire pressure and oil level are factors. Make sure they are where they should be.

That said, I am currently adding vibration damper material (http://secondskinaudio.com/products/...-Reduction.php) to my car, starting with the hatch and the (don't laugh) gas pedal. Doors and wheel wells and assorted plastic bits are next.

I'll also use closed cell foam (http://secondskinaudio.com/products/...se-Filters.php) between door panels and the doors and in place of those crappy felt strips all over the interior plastic.

The rattle on top of the dashboard is just a cover where you would have a sensor if you had the on board computer option. I have the same issue.

You could probably stop it with double sided tape or something like that. I actually did upgrade my exhaust and haven't noticed the rattle since...so Longboard is actually right.

Most rattles and squeaks can be fixed by chasing down loose fasteners or clips. It just take some time and patience, they won't go away on there own. As for getting that nice thump when you close the doors, I suggest installing Dynamat in your car, and when you take all the interior panels off to install it you can chase down those loose or broken fasteners. I did this on my '02 MCS I bought last year and no rattles. Another advantage of the Dynamat is that your stereo will sound better and you will eliminate some of your road and tire noise making the car quieter.
