OEM Dunlop runflat tire wear

My 2009 MCS has 8,800 miles on it. 90% of which is stop n go city driving. I don't drive the car hard (i.e. dumping the clutch, screeching around corners, etc) and yet my front tires are almost down to the wear indicators. I imagine they'll be down that far by the time I hit 10,000 miles. My rear tires look absolutely showroom new! I'm going to have my rears put up front soon, and I will not be putting runflats on the car once the OEM tires are shot.

My previous car (2004 MB C230K) had Michelin Pilot Sports - 17x7's up front and 17x8's in the rear - that meant I could not rotate them at all. I managed to get over 20,000 miles on them and they're a pretty soft compound.

Has anyone else noticed their front tires getting horrible tread life?

I have 28,000 on my original tires with plenty of tread left. Could be bad alignment.

That's the funny thing, the wear is completely even - no toe in or toe out. My friend's JCW has 18,000 miles and his tires look nothing like mine.

Whats your rotation interval? I will be doing mine every 5k when I have my oil changed.

Could be they were not rotated when they should have been.

My original Dunlop RFs got about 20k miles, and I do accelerate quickly, chirp 2nd occasionally, and tear into curves on a regular basis. Maybe you should rotate your tires more and change your driving style.

Yes I agree. It really sounds like driving style. It's really easy to light up the front tires with moderate acceleration (you won't hear a squeal until you really get into it a bit) and then compound it with stop & go driving where this is repeated over and over. Best bet is rotate front to back every 5000 to 7500 miles.

I have 18k on my run flats, and I am figuring that I can get another 10k out of them.

I had 30,000 on mine and going strong when I picked up a fatal nail and due to location had to exercise the run flat feature ... but that feature DID allow spousal unit to get home with out stopping, only slowing a bit.

Having driven 50+ miles on a flat run flat and given the overall wear, I bought new tires . . .

Might well be alignment. I got 50,000 miles on my OEM Dunlops, then got them changed at a tire store. Then the new front tires barely made 8,000 miles before getting worn out due to alignment problems.
