P0300 Random/Multiple Misfires

I have just finished rebuilding my 08 MCS engine after it destroyed itself because of the tensioner/timing chain problem.

Now that I have it running I am getting the following codes:

P0300 Random/Multiple Misfires
P0301 Misfire Cylinder 1
P0302 Misfire Cylinder 2

The engine seems to run OK but I do detect a slight miss at idle. It may have a miss at higher revs but I can't tell.

I have swapped the 1 & 2 cylinder coils and plugs with cylinders 3 & 4 and still get the codes for cylinder 1 and 2. So reasoning would say that eliminates the coils and plugs. I was thinking about swapping 1 & 2 injectors with 3 & 4 to eliminate the injectors. I doubt that is the problem but it is a process of elimination.

If you have had these codes please let me know what the problem was. Thanks.

same exact codes a while back as my head gasket began to fail....replacd under warranty. Now a ring on cylinder 1 destroyed itself and warranty has been denied. looking at about $7800 worth of work and I definitely plan on fighting this case with MINI. 08 Cooper S with only 20,500 miles. MINI made a bad decision on the "new" engine in the R56 and now they need honor their warranty and not look for every little excuse to deny

When I was swapping injectors I noticed a vacuum hose off below the intake manifold. I think this was where the misfires were coming from.

You can buy a new engine from Mini for around $3500. $7800 seems to be a bit much. I would fight also.

$3500?? They quoted me $11,700 for a brand new crate engine!! Holy crap I gotta get to the bottom of this

Do you happen to know where you got that price from? Brand new engine or rebuilt one? Any info will be great

Also, was your warranty denied also or why did you have to rebuild the engine yourself?

I bought my 08 MCS at a used car dealership with 89K on the odometer. It would not run so I had to rebuild the engine.

The 3500 is a new crate engine with a 2 year warranty. There is a $500 core charge. Call 800-697-8812 and ask for the parts department. Talk with Dustin or Andy and tell them that Charlie in Decatur said to give them a call about the engine.
