Is it stuck? I feel like the thing needs a tune up. And, I need to get this cold start dieseling thing dealt with.

I mentioned a rough sound at start two years ago, thinking there were leaves in my fan or something, but at the time there was little knowledge/documentation of the dieseling issue.

Now I'm out of warranty and at about 57K miles. Service indicator says 1100 miles or 2/12.

You must be cleaning the oil as you drive. Just had my Tensioner checked/replaced. The car is so much quieter now.

Get out your owner's manual, find the section on how to access the service indicators. Go through them and figure out which one is at 1,100 miles.

I consider the CBS reference when to service it, I don't trust it or rely on it for accuracy anymore than what the MPG is..... I always track and calculate these things by hand. For example the CBS will have you go 20,000 miles for an oil change or 1 year which ever come first. - I choose every 6 months for our baby which will be about every 5,000 miles. I change it at 6 months, the "free" service at 12 months.

Go thru your 2008 owners and maintenance books and work up what they recommend, so you at least have that reference. At 57,000 miles you must be about due for spark plugs, that's about it for a tune-up these days. Here's what I gleaned from the 2010 manuals:

Oil Change 1 Year or CBS
Brake Fluid 2 Years or CBS
Micro-Filter 2 Years
Air Filter 2 Years or Every 2nd Oil Change or CBS
Tires 6 Years
Spark Plugs 60K
Transmission Service 100K
Oxygen Sensor 120K
Coolant N/S ("Long-term rated. Change at system repairs only").
V-Belt N/S
Fuel Filter N/S
Power Steering Fluid N/S

It finally changed to 700 miles. Will they replace that tensioner thing after warranty has expired?

I don't buy those 'never service' intervals.

The BMW club publishes an "old school" maintenance schedule that they recommend. It's basically BMW's factory recommended service schedule from before when they covered maintenance during the warranty.

It recommends coolant changes every two years, differential, transmission, and power steering oil every 30k miles, and fuel filter and belts every 60k.

I would post it, but they ask that it not be shared.

It is what ever you want it to be, if you are out of the Free Maintenance Period, if not then the Dealer will replace the Oil @ 1yr. intervals. I'm like MCSFever and have Molly's Oil Changed every 6mos, even when I had the Free Maintenance I did this.

This is exactly what VW did. They started to cover full maint during the warranty period and stopped publishing the normal intervals like before and stated most things were "never service" items... Thats not what my buddy a 15 year certified VW master tech says hehe.

What's the BMW Club website that has this stealth schedule?
