Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S(R56), and Cabrio (R57).
The first pump was either defective or misdiagnosed (something else causing the failure). The second pump was probably a screwed-up installation or affected by whatever was missed the first time. You would have to be very unlucky to get two defective water pumps where defects typically fall in the 30-200 defective parts-per-million range. It could happen, but I'd guess there are other factors.
It's only anecdotal, but my waterpump is the original and has 76,000 miles on it.
We have replaced them and it is a huge pain so it could have been damaged during the first install. We see them leak hear and there, but not a huge problem part otherwise.
