Extended Warranty or Not?

i have a 07 MCS with just over 49000 miles on the clock. in less then 1000 miles, my original factory warranty will be over.

so far the mini has already gone in for the time chain issue and carbon build up in the intake valves. besides these 2 things, I remember the A/C system had a leaky valve, had a coolant leak from the engine, maybe a few other things I don't remember right now.

aside from creaks and squeaks, what are some of the big issues that my mini hasn't seen?

I'm worry that when the warranty runs out, something will break and I'll end up paying through my A...

The dealer quoted me for $3200 for extra 2 years or 100,000 miles. Is it worth it???

Only you can put a price on the peace of mind that you will be purchasing.

Shop around the aftermarket warranty business is very competitive, you should be able to find something cheaper. Credit unions many times have good deals.

so after having the intake blasted at the dealership, the car started ok in the morning. but when i was leaving work, it took me 3 times to start up the car...

what else is a common problem with the 07 MCS? What's the issue with the vacuum pump? it sounds like another potential major problem that can completely blow up the engine. any more details on that?

thanks

Have you had the high pressure fuel pump replaced? Thats a common problem and causes cold start issues due to lack of fuel pressure. Then once you have cranked it a few times it fires up and is all good! Good news on that as well if it is the HFP Then MINI has extended the warraty for 10yr/100,000 miles on the repair.

At 50,000 miles, I decided I was going to treat the MINI like all of my other autos and assume it will not break just because the warranty has expired. So far everything's good at 77,000 miles. I just hope it stays glued together until I sell it later this year.

Careful on extend warranties as some have started only covering 'true mechanical failure' vs something just wearing out due to time and usage. Also warranties are only as good as the dealership you will be taking the car to.

Get the extended warranty!!! Mine left warranty in feb 2011 and since than have dumped 5k in repairs into it for exhaust valves, broken turbo oil line, carbon cleaning, auxilliary water pump, and timing chain. I am picking it up and buying an extended warranty. NO MORE MINIS EVER. Other warranty repairs in the past include but are not limited to thermostat housing, turbo waste gate, and engine control unit. This car is absolutely the most unreliable car that I have ever owned.

By the way my dealer is charging me 2200.00 for a 48 month warranty so you can probably talk them down.

Can you purchase an extended warranty from any Mini dealer? When I owned my F-150's, you could get the extended warranty from any dealer, which allowed for some good competition and lower prices.
