All bad fart jokes aside.............


So the bouncing idle seems to have calmed down on my '08 Cooper S but now............. at idle she seems to make gentle fart or poot sounds out of the exhaust. Makes the car sound sort of lumpy. Also seems to be down on power a bit. Engine is completely stock and still under warrantee with roughly 60k km.


I feel I'm so close to getting this Cooper S idle issue(s) sorted but still not there yet. Anyone have any ideas!?!?!? I'm spending WAAAY too much time at the Dealership with this car........ although the Dealership has been excellent service wise so far. But still, this $40K plus car is a luv/hate affair. Mini deserves a serious kick in the azz for this on-again-off-again product. Or maybe its the stupid ka-ka non-BMW built motor.

 

Agreed, ideally they should have stuck with the MK1 Brazil/Chrysler engine. And while direct injection seems to be the way many engine makers are going, the N14 engine has had some "issues". Whle the Coooper's N12 has been quite good.

A bouncing idle could be the DME searching for idle frm some other issue ? If still under warranty...and I know your gonna not like this.....have the dealer investigate. Rough and/or erratic idle is one of the symptoms of carbon build up on the intake valves.

As a fix in the bulletin, they manually remove the buildup on the back of the valves with a device wich blasts crushed walnut shells. They come out with a mirror like shine bringing back performance ect.

So could just be the MINI valves just require a "colonoscopy" of sorts to rid the farts and poots....

 

It's been scheduled to go back in to Mini to have this checked. So we'll see.
