Warranty Works!

Went in for an oil change at 36k+ miles on my 08 MiniS. . . I have the 100K service agreement (transferred from previous owner). That extended the warranty to 50K.

They said I was too early for an oil change . . . had not completed 15k miles . . . now gonna started supplementing with my own oil change at 7500 miles inbetween the dealer ones . . . full synthetic, but 15K miles between oil changes?

Any way, I told them I had a noise around the right front manifold . . . turn out to be a timing chain . . . that little warranty saved me $2800 in parts and service!

I am glad for that extended warranty!

I don't mind the long oil change interval but I will probably be doing the very first oil change following break-in on my next car early at my cost. After that I will probably go back to the usual service intervals.

The original factory *warranty* on your car was for 4 years/50k miles, so you would have been covered anyway. The 100,000 mile extension the previous owner bought was for the *service agreement* which expires at 3 years/36k miles if you don't purchase an extension. Regardless, I'm glad you were able to get the timing chain fixed with no problems.

As for the oil change intervals, I do the same thing (an extra oil change right in the middle of the computer-recommended interval). Even so, I'm still going 10k miles between changes sometimes, because even though the computer-recommended interval starts off at 15k miles, the computer can lengthen it even further depending on driving habits. I've gone as long as 23k miles between computer-recommended oil changes.
