Engine Timing Procedure

I had the same issue when replacing the head gasket on my 03 MCS. In order to put the timing back in you will have to remove the head cover, belt, belt tensioner, crank pulley and finally the oil pump part. once all of that has been accessed you will see on the timing chain there are 3 gold/copper colored links. Two side by side and one by itself. The two links side by side correspond to the two arrows on the crank. The one by itself goes to the arrow on the camshaft arrow. It isn't that hard but can take a few minutes. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Since you have a R56 the Second Generation Forum would be more applicable to you.
