Mushroomed towers and crack?

Mushroomed towers and crack?
Trying to figure out why my car pulls to the left when I accelerate; I notice that my driver side tower is mushroomed and cracked.
Here's the tower-
The tower is also slightly buckled on the inside, do you guys think it would be safe to just whack it back to shape and slap a tower defender on there?
The thing that's scaring me is that the visible rubber is cracked pretty bad
Can anyone tell me what that black plastic piece in there is exactly? Have I destroyed the mount to my shock or is this cracking normal with mushroomed towers?
Thanks

Wow, that one is obvious... Sometimes it is hard to tell, but that one is def. mushroomed. Mine was mushroomed and it was whacked back into shape and I put on new top mounts and a strut tower defender. Not sure what to say about the additional item of the metal seam looking poorly. Should get a better look once strut off of car.

here is the diy for spring installation, similar procedure, just swap out the strut mount instead of the spring.
