Stalled, while driving, and overheated!
Hey gang. I am the proud owner of an 06 mini S!!
Well I was driving home the other day, and my car almost stalled out, then the dash lit up. A few moments later the car started to overheat. So pulled over and checked the belts. They were fine. Left the car there until it cooled off and went back for it. Car started fine, drove fine for a quarter of a mile, and the same thing happend again. Except with a loud knocking clicking sound. All the fluids are fine, and there was an almost buring plastic smell...
Any thoughts!??? Cause I am stumped
Thanks!!

Do not try and drive it.
Check the oil and coolant levels, but don't just look for what is there. Coolant can separate and make sludge, it might be time for a flush if it is like jello. Also make sure the fan is running. That bonnet is a heat trap and your engine must be getting toasty. Also the oil pump or the coolant pump could be seized, look out for that. Start with the oil though.... No oil flow = no lubrication = clicking/thumping. Sample the oil and check to see how thick it is.
Read the OBDII if you can do so without moving it.

Yeah, I checked all of the fluids, after it cooled down. Everything looked normal, I had it towed to a shop, and only started it to load it and unload it. And I should have about a thousand miles until I'm due for an oil change. But you could be right about the oil pump, because the clicking was louder, yet coming from the bottom of the engine, near the pulleys.
thanks for the help bro!
