Hey CGS thanks for the bit on th 4000 rpm and gas milage.
I hardly shift under 4000 rpm (closer to 4500) and stay between 3800
and 4000 always. Me milage is in that 20 mpg range. Figured I was to blame so no worries on me part Me MINI loves that range... however I beg to ask if this is the wrong style to drive this car??
Oh yeah- gots a 05 MCS.

You just don't need to twist it that high. The MCS makes good torque and can lug below 2000 rpms, you just aren't going to accelerate as fast. I use 5th gear at 45-60 mph and 6th above that. Let the engine torque its way around, you won't hurt it.
By the way I knock down about 24-25 on short trip (4 miles) medium speed two lane roads. On the freeway I'm getting 28-29 but I cruise at 79 mph almost always with occasional blasts up to who knows what (110 mph)....I just can't keep my foot out of this thing. Drive it conservative on the freeway (do the speed limit in 6th gear) and I have no doubt it would get well over 30.
Cheers! Happy weekend!

My mileage
2005 MCS. 205-45-17 Pirelli Euforia runflats, 38psi front 35psi rear. 15% reduction supercharger pulley, VGS, balance mechanically stock. Southern California climate. Daily solo commute 20mi each way, ~2/3 surface street, 1/3 freeway. Occasional longer freeway trips. Note discrepancy between OBC avg MPG and MPG computed from odometer and gas pump readings. Also not relationship of MPG to avg speed.

Sorry to be excavating the dead, but I thought I would pop in here with a question. I have an 03 MCS, 42k miles, still driving on runflats. My commute is 160 miles/day. Of the 80 miles each way, 76 of those miles are freeway, with little traffic. I generally cruise at 3500 to 3750 RPM on the freeway. The best mileage I have seen yet (calculated, the OBC lies) is 26. Average is about 24. Since the weather turned really cold last week(low-mid 20's for the AM leg) my MPG has gone way downhill. Used 1/2 tank on the 80 mile AM leg yesterday!
What's up?!!! Why would cold ambient temp have any effect on MPG, after the engine has warmed up?
I always use tier 1 gas, but the best we get here is 91 octane.
I'm stumped. Anyone got any ideas?

I've noticed that cold weather always reduced my gas mileage, but only by 10-15%

2. are you running up the revs in each gear? It is fun - but eats gas.
3. What tire pressures? Cold weather has an effect on the airpressure in the tires. For best gas milage use the fully loaded pressure on the door (I think it is 36 psi, but I am away from my car).

Is this car stock? How many miles? Do you know what maintenance was done? Maybe time for new plugs & wires, a clean air filter, a can of Techron injector cleaner in the tank. Using the correct oil? Tire pressure?
You should be getting at least 25mpg, closer to 30.

Far as I know it has a BMP Racing Intake, and Borla Exhaust. I know nothing else.
The car as 73000km's. And like I said I just bought it. It is a 2002, I did buy a 48mth/80000km warranty from dealership I bought it from.
I'll take it back, tell them about the P/S Hiss I have, Clatter in the Engine, and Poor Mileage.
