What's a good roof rack that won't break the bank?

I'm looking for a very simple, easy to install roof rack for my 03' MCS. I've seen the Thule's and the Yakima racks....but by the time you by all of the mounts and bars you need to get a complete roof rack, you are pushing $300+. I'm not looking for a factory style rack where I have to drill holes in the car, just one I can mount on the top for the weekends....and then remove when I'm done with it. I like the ones that mount into the molding rails above the windows...the Thules and Yakimas are like that.

What's a good, inexpensive, simple roof rack that will fit my car, but not cost me an arm and a leg? I just need it to have some simple cross bars to strap a light weight kayak to.

Thanks!!!

Stripe Removal

I have a newly-acquired 2005 MCS, 28,000 miles, always garaged, dark silver. I would like to remove the factory-installed white stripes on the bonnet. Is there any trick to doing it properly? I don't want to mess up the paint or leave any trace that the stripes were there.

Thanks in advance for your help. I appreciate all of your comments on this forum.

You'd probably have to use a heat gun to remove them.

Yeah a heat gun don't keep it long on the paint , hopefully the paint hasn't faded under the strips ..

I removed the factory stripes when I got my 06 JCW with 62K. They weren't hard, just left it in the sun for about an hour and they peeled right off leaving no visible residue. I used a mild polish on the hood once they were off. Even now when it gets dusty I can see the outline of the old stripes. I talked to a detailer and they just said a few more polishes should take care of it.

Just took off my black/white outline stripes. A heat gun and some rubbing alcohol to remove any adhesive that didnt pull off. I replaced with matte black wrap material I had left over.. Hated the white outlines!! Very little outline was visible.

I hit mine gently with my heat gun and pulled the stripes right off. To clean up after I used some cleaner wax and polished the area right up. I have some sun fade on my electric blue paint though. I wanted to do different stripes like viper stripes with 3M Di-Noc Carbon fiber but might have to paint first. That isn't too bad of an idea anyways my hood and bumper are pretty chipped up anyways.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Since its still 90 degrees here, maybe a few hours in the sun will get the stripes warmed up enough for an easy removal. I'll let you know what happens . . .
