Surging...

Sorry guys, but am a R56 owner who needs to ask a R50 question for a friend. I am half drunk and can't see doing a fracked NAM search for this.... My friend has a 2006 Justa whose engine seems to "surge" or at least tries to when at low RPM's. She said it feels like it wants to "go faster" when at parking lot speeds, "jumping forward".

Any ideas? I would really appreciate any help. I have enough trouble keeping up with my cars issues!

Bourbon!

Thank you.

Seems like the first step is to read the fault codes, right? That's pretty much always the first step. Maybe also start snooping around for a vacuum leak.

My car always feels like it wants to go faster, but there are too many cops around

Honestly I find if you are in first gear at like 4000RPM it is like this, but if it's not just the transmission begging for an upshift i don't know what it could be.

With stock tires on an R50, 4,000 rpm in first gear is about 21 mph, which I don't think is low rpm, or a parking lot speed. In a parking lot I'd hope you'd be going more like 5 to 10 mph, which is 1,000 to 2,000 rpm in first. But the underlying point is sound: drive the car and see if it feels like something is wrong with it.

If it is an auto with the CVT transmission, it is probably the lousy software programming between "Creep" mode at 0-9mph and "Normal" from 10mph and up.
