TPS Sensor question.

ok so i have an 05 mcs and the person i bought it from changed the tiers and rims. i don't have runner flats anymore and also my tps sensor is on.

my question is how do i get the tps sensor light to turn off. i tryd to reset the car but that failed and didn't work.

also Note that i am going to change my tires but i dont want to order them until i know what to do with the light.

The sensor on the 2005 is not in the rims like newer systems...it compares each tire rpm...and looks for a sudden change (using the same sensors the abs, and dsc uses), and sets a light if the number of rpms varries from the number ehen it was reset..

Do the reset procdure again...(look it up if you need too)
The sysyem works with any tire rim combo..

No...it needs to be reset via the button by the parking brake.

Do you have the manual?

If not, here is a link http://www.motoringfile.com/motoringfile-downloads/

Anytime you change a tire or rims it should be reset...
Simple and easy to do.

the new tire/rim combo they put on might not have TPMS which would cause the light to constantly be on

Here’s how to initialize the “FLAT TIRE MONITOR SYSTEM” Gen 1
(this is NOT for the TPMS system on newer Gen 2’s)

The button is down by the hand brake.

Initializing the system
Only initialize the system if the inflation
pressure has been corrected or changed,
e.g. after a tire change.”

1. Ignition key in position 2
2. Press the button long enough for the
yellow indicator lamp in the instrument
cluster to light up for a few seconds
3. Start the engine.
After a few minutes driving time, the Flat
Tire Monitor sets the current inflation pressure
in the tires as the target values to be
monitored.

As PREVIOUSLY STATED, and as the point of this entire thread, almost all gen1 cars (a few very late production gen1 cabrios excluded) DO NOT USE TIRE PREASURE SENSORS!!!
they use the computer to cout revolutions of the tires...if there is a sudden change the tires spin to cover a given distance, the tire is changing size...
going flat....

Page 62 of the owners manual. Press the button until the light illuminates, then release the button.
