Anybody have the problem with the dome light coming on while driving? I would reach up and turn it off but it kept coming back on. I even stopped and turned of the engine, came back in a few minutes and the light was back on. When I got home I just took the fuse out so it wouldn't run my battery down. I took the bulb out and couldn't see that the wire was broken but one side of the glass was a little darker than the rest. No dash warning lights came on or anything else weird. I have done several searches on here and have not come up with anything that was close to my symptoms. I have a 03 Cooper.

 

I've experienced similar. It could be a door or boot switch failure. My freedom loving dome light was accompanied by the boot ajar warning though. To access the boot without all that entertainment I have to lock with the fob then unlock just the boot. Everybody seems to be happy with that procedure so far.

 

As they say here is the rest of the story if anyone with similar problems stumbles onto this thread.
My solution was that I found that one of the battery clamps was not clamped tight on the terminal. I tried tightening it and man does that break easy. Tried calling a Mini dealer to see how much it would cost to replace the clamp and all they wanted to sell me was the entire cable for $65. I went to a VW dealer and got the clamp for $11. After that the dome light worked as it should.
