Hard Starting?

Hard Starting?
I have been reading various threads on this subject for about the past 1/2 hour. About ten different "fixes" for the hard starting issue have been suggested. I am hoping that someone with the exact same problem on the same model/year has a fix.
My car: 2007 Mini Cooper S (first year with Turbo), 40,000miles.
Location: Rochester, NY Yes, it's Winter.
About a month ago, only from a cold start, it takes two tries to start and run. (By cold start I mean over night)
About two weeks ago, only from a cold start, takes 2-3 tries to start and run.
Last week, only from a cold start, takes 3-4 tries to start and also runs very poorly (check engine light) .
In all cases, once warmed to operating temperature, the car runs fine with good power and gas mileage readings 38-40MPG at steady state highway speeds.
Any help from owners of same car and same symptoms greatly appreciated.

just FYI but you would want to post in 2nd Gen MINI's to get more of a response your MINI is an R56 and a 2nd Gen MINI.
Your symptoms do relate to similar problems caused by a bad high pressure fuel pump. Good thing, if it is the Pump, MINI extended the warranty of the pump to 10yrs/120,000 miles. might want to have it checked out. does it ever set a check engine light?

Just realized I'm not in the gen 2 section. Sorry.
Yes, check engine light came on once for a few seconds. Had AutoZone read out the OBDII fault codes; said misfire on cylinder 3
