'07 Hatchback Check Engine Light

I bought my R56 just under three weeks ago. It has about 80k miles on it.

My check engine light came on about twenty miles ago. When I called my dealership, they said that it would cost about $140 to even look as to why the check engine light is on.

I was wondering if anyone has run into any of these issues and what it could possibly be. I really don't know what it could be, but any assistance would be appreciated.

Unless you have some type of warranty in place, I'd bypass the stealership, oops I meant dealership. They will most likely be your most expensive diagnostic and repair option. Autozone or a similar auto parts store will often read CEL codes for free. The problem is that often that just provides a list of potential issues, rather than just the single thing that caused the problem. Unless you're handy with diagnostics and wrenches, now would be an excellent time to get to know your local independent foreign car service center. Most of the time places like that will do the work for about 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of the dealership. Best of luck. Oh yea, there could be a number of things, cheap to expensive, the caused the CEL - only way to really know for sure is with a code reader.

Ran a code read with my father and it came up the codes P0014 and P0017. Both are as follows;

P0014 "B" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance
P0017 Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation

Since I bought the car three weeks ago (just under 1,000 miles ago) I will be going in on Tuesday to the dealership to see what they can do. They better hope I don't have to cause a scene. My father said that "if we need to get arrested, that could be fun".

Will keep everyone posted on Tuesday night (or Wednesday morning if I end up spending time at the Morristown police station.

Just curious, what did you find out at the dealership?

In my experience, one of those sensors could be bad causing both to appear bad. Interested to find out too. I have a code scanner I bought from Strap on I mean Snap on for $60. Loan it to your buddies for $3 a pop and it will be paid off in no time
