Power Steering Pump Fan EHPS Problem

Hello. I have a 2003 Mini Cooper S (Build date of 11/02), and I noticed the power steering pump fan was seized the last time I was under it for an oil change. I've replaced the fan, but I can't ever see it turn on.

From what I've read, if you turn the AC on, the fan should come on when the radiator fan turns on... but I get nothing.

I've checked all the fuses in the engine compartment, and in the fuse box in the cab by the drivers foot. Is there any way to debug this issue? I've read a bunch of the other links to forumns on here, but so far no luck.

I was going to check the relay thinking it was bad, and I found the following diagram showing the location for the EHPS relay http://tech.bentleypublishers.com/th...ssageID=318703
but I can't find it down there.

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have found that the fan only comes on then the fluid gets to warm, and ours is pretty loud but not so loud as to be distracting just noticable.

i also just replaced the pump and fan in a 2005 mini and havent seen the fan come on yet. Does it in fact come on with the radiator fan or not?

It's supposed to turn on simultaneously w/ the hi-speed fan.

Nitz,

If you find out the cause of your issue please post it here so I can try on mine. I plan to dig into my car next weekend, and if I can't figure out the real issue I'm just going to put in a manual switch to turn the fan on. I think that's better than not running the fan and risking burning up the pump.
