What struts to get??? HELP HELP HELP

So as some of you might have read my Nightmare on MINI street story I found a place to repair the rest of my stuff for half the price the dealer quoted me and I have decided to get the issues taken care of. I'm having my upper strut mounts replaced, 4 wheel alignment and rear brakes done on my 06 MCS JCW I was quoted $772.82 for all the work compared to the dealers $1500.00 price tag. I dont think thats too bad but if anyone knows differently please let me know.

My big question?????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????
From what I have heard is the struts could be bad and could be the cause of the upper strut mounts to fail and it is possible that those might need to be replaced. I dont know for sure, but since there gonna be tearing in to that area should i just have them do it?

These are the two options KYB struts add $413.72 EACH
Or the second option is MONROE struts add 183.58 EACH

Is there a huge difference between these two struts? Is it worth the extra money? I know nothing about this stuff...Are the MONROE struts OE for a 2006 MCS JCW if not what are OE struts?

PLEASE HELP ME OUT IF YOU KNOW THE ANSWER NEED TO GET THIS STUFF FIXED ASAP

Hmmm, no takers? Let me try.

KYB and Monroe are both OE ("Original Equipment") replacement products. I'm assuming they're proposing the KYB GR2 model shock which *is* a standard, OE replacement style shock/strut, not a performance replacement as a Koni or Bilstein would be.

Checking Rock Auto (an online parts supplier) KYBs are indeed about double the price for Monroes. If it were me choosing: I wouldn't pay extra. When I sold auto parts, Monroe was an acceptable replacement brand, had a warranty for xx miles against leaking/failure, etc. and we had no particular bad experience with returns of defective parts, etc.

HTH. Can't help you on the question of whether to replace them *at all*; if your MINI is high mileage and there are signs of leakage...those are the usual indicators that it's time for new ones.

Get a set of Koni FSDs, you will love them.

Way has a killer price on them right now.

Thank you for all the information that helps a lot. I think I'm just gonna hold off until i hear back and see if they need replacing if not I'm just gonna wait and save my pennies for a coil over kit lol

Should have the MINI back tomorrow with replaced upper strut mounts, new rear brakes, and a 4 wheel alignment... should be like new =)

If you are worried about ride, coilovers may not be what you are looking for.

I dont mind a rough ride I had a 1987 Suzuki Samurai and currently drive a 4 door Jeep with live axles and my Sami had Leaf springs so I dont care about that at all.

Well see what happens for now I'm not gonna fix it if its not broken.
