could electrical problems be water-related?

I have recently gone through about 2 months of electrical repairs on my wife's R53 with continuing lights still randomly appearing on the dashboard..

the list of repairs ($2500+) include:
ECU
window trim panel (DSC switch fried) twice
revolution CO
and now a brake pressure switch is suspected

here is the last technical report from a Mini dealership/service advisor:
************************************************** ******
"customer states the DSC light came on when they hit the button to try and reset it. smoke came out and they heard a zapping noise. they had some parts replaced at a different shop for the DSC light 2 weeks prior to this happening.

removed switch panel from car. disassembled switch panel and found behind the DSC switch a short that burned the component. installed new switch panel. after installing new switch panel the low beam headlights, RPMS, fuel and temp gauge, cel light and other components did not work properly that were on the can bus. found a melted resistor inside the RPM gauge on the steering wheel. after installing and coding the new rev counter, these features still did not work. checked power coming into speedometer for the can bus which there was no communication on the can bus. unplugged each module on the can bus to see if one was bringing down the system. there was nothing wrong with any of these modules. checked fuse for the cluster. all were good. installed new 5amp fuse and everything worked. one of the shorts most likely blew the fuse. road test. everything functional."
************************************************** *******
now after all of this, we notice that these problems lately have been occurring whenever the weather is very wet (which has been daily this spring)

could these glitches possibly come from water backing into the interior electrical/dashboard panel from the sunroof?
and if so, how can we find and fix?

thank you for any help in this matter

When my sunroof drain tubes were clogged, water accumulated in front of the sunroof switchl/dome lights panel just behind the windsheild. It dampened the headliner, but luckily I caught it in time. Have the dealership check the sunroof drain tubes. Also, currently there is water getting into the battery compartment and dampening the carpet that folds up on top. This is coming either from bad 3rd brake light seal or bad hatch handle seal. Check that area out. Also check out BCM area by the passenger kick panel for signs of water.

Check the BC1 located in the passenger kick panel as well. They have been known to get wet and corrode causing the various lights that you mentioned.

Also never underestimate the possubility of a wiring harness issue....
Folks have tried to splice driving lights into the wrong places, not use relays, etc, and done dammage in the past....cuts and chafes are possible....
