New AC compressor out because of flood?

I installed a new reman compressor a few months ago and it died a few weeks ago. It was working fine until one day I parked my car on the streets in a downhill slope and it was raining a lot which caused a mini flood.
The water reached maybe a 1/4 or 1/3 of the wheels. When I drove afterwards the windshield became quite foogy and then I realize the compressor stopped working. Could that be the direct cause because I really can't see why it would cause it to fail.

Check for a short in the wiring system, water an always corrode connections, but I don't think it was directly caused by a mini flood.
