Oily residue on back window, head gasket?
Hey everyone I just found a coolant leak in my R56 and replaced a broken water pipe and thermostat housing. Now when I drive it I'm getting an oily residue on the rear window and hatch. I'm thinking maybe the leak caused some overheating and blew the gasket or something else. I did check and there is no fluid in the spark plug holes if that matters. It only gave me the overheating warning once and I drove it for another 2 minutes before it was parked and new coolant was added while. It was about a week before the problem was discovered but I kept an eye on the coolant and it never gave me the overheating warning again. What do you all think it could be? Thanks

Seen a MINI blow a oil filter cap O-ring once. They had been driving down the highway when it happend. The boot and glass was covered with oil carried there from the air flow and vortex of air at the back of the car.
Maybe you still have a leak when system is under pressure.

Happened to me, leaving dealer after an oil change. The tech didn't get the new o-ring on correctly and it blew once i got on the 210. Didn't notice til i was almost home. Fortunately, there was still over 1/2 of the oil left when I called roadside service for a tow back.
Check your driver side wheel well, if there's oil soaked into the liner, that could be what happened.
