Alright one last key fob question...

Hey guys,

I have been searching for hours about programming key fob that you can buy from ebay.

Now once I get the key cut and program myself for 06, would it start the engine if the key is correctly cut? No POST that I came across mentions if the copied key will start or not. Only mentions about if the key fob will unlock the door or not.

How does the plastic valet key work? It is simple plastic key right?

TIA

As far as I know the immobiliser chip needs to be associated with the car and only Mini can do that (unless you have the equipment to program your Mini), so an ebay key will only work if you cut it open and put your original immobiliser chip in it.

If you're replacing a mangled key that still has the chip, you can make it work, but a generic key (no matter the cut) won't start the engine.

It is a plastic key that is cut like the metal key, but it also has an immobilizer smart chip that allows it to start the car.
