Is Mobil 1 extended Life ok for the 2012 MCa?
Comet was down a quart of oil. So I looked at the manual and saw about the BMW LL1. I didn't see any oil that said that. So I searched for the manual for an alternative oil. It said:
Gasoline engines
API SM or higher specifications
Then I looked again and the Mobil 1 ext life was API SN and met or exceeded API SM. So I added it to Comet. Will this be ok? Thanks.

I didn't get the 0w40 because there is a label on my engine that says only 5w30 oil. In 3 months I get my oil changed. Thanks for helping.

The 5w30 is for Castrol oil from the dealer. Per the MINI Owner's Lounge, the following are considered "acceptable" oils for topping off purposes:
Long-life rating LL-01 Approved Synthetic Oils for the US Market
Technically the Castol information is incorrect as well since Castrol has changed their branding. Castrol Edge with Synerlec (sp?) is the correct oil now, still in the 0w30.
Mobil1 is still the same.
I think the Valvoline is still accurate.
Long-life rating LL-01 Approved Synthetic Oils for the US Market
- - Castrol Syntec European Formula SAE 0W-30
- - Mobil 1 SAE 0W-40
- - Pennzoil Platinum European Formula Ultra SAE 5W-30
- - Valvoline SynPower SAE 5W-30

These threads make me laugh...
You don't have to have an oil that is MINI approved. As long as you are using the same weight that is already in and it meets or exceeds the rating, you are fine.
There is nothing special about the MINI approved oils other than they paid to have it advertised.
