2007 Mini Cooper Stalling
I have a JustaCooper with 48,000 miles that is 6 months out of warranty. My car stalled upon startup after an errand 4 days ago. Didn't think much of it until it stalled in traffic yesterday and it could barely move it into my parking garage. I noticed that a warmed up idle is usually between 800-900 rpm (slightly higher if AC or heat is running). When I start my car, it usually jumps around to 1,200 rpm, might dip a bit to 700 rpm and then settle to a normal idle. Before the car stalled, i noticed that the idling was fluctuating at a greater rate for a few days. The car stalled in first gear at the usual idle rpm.
I just went back down and it started fine. The gas has 3 bars left. I read that it could be bad gas, I always use 91 Techron. Any ideas on what the issue may be? I'm scared to know how much a fuel pump costs and hope I can determine the issue on my end.

So I filled up the car with gas and the car has stalled again. Here are the symptoms: Drive car, stop at light, RPM go to standard 800 and a twitching sound can be heard. RPMs then randomly drop to 600 and then stalls. Every time I stop, the twitching sound happens for a second and small dip in RPMs. It only stalled once after stopping more than 30 times in one day. No performance issues whatsoever.

Dealer Update: Car was a dealer's today. No electrical signals that anything is wrong, it must be mechanical. They checked the oil and there is little left?!? It was only changed 5,000 miles ago by the dealer (no leaks in my garage)! That might be the issue. They're changing the oil and a tech is driving her home. If that doesn't fix the issue then they're going to take the valve cover off and investigate further. Hope there was no damage to the car with so little oil...

Yea the N14 engine burns a lot of oil. I would check the oil every week to make sure it's at the right level. My wife's R56 is an 07 too and needs 1 quart every 1k miles. MINI says this is normal. I read a lot of horror story about engine failure due to lack of oil in the engine. I hope there's no damage to your engine.

Last Update (Hopefully). My dealer did an extensive check on the electrical system, multiple mechanical checks and pretty much went above and beyond to rectify the issue. After performing an oil change and having the tech drive it home, the car runs good as new. Lesson learned, check oil more frequently. Happy motoring to all!
